Denison Alumni Association honors graduates, athletes

BY DONNA HUNT

The Denison Alumni Association will recognize five distinguished graduates and two outstanding athletes Thursday at a reception in their honor around 6 p.m. (after the homecoming parade) at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.

Named Distinguished Alumni will be Carl E. Bilderback, class of 1954; Jim Hightower, class of 1961; Emily C. Jones (posthumously), class of 1967; Drewey D. McKnight Jr., Terrell High class of 1942; and Joseph Duggan (posthumously), class of 1949. Selected to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame are Dr. Jerome Duggan, class of 1952, and Fred A. Taylor, class of 1938.

The annual event honors distinguished alumni and adds outstanding athletes to the Sports Hall of Fame. Plaques containing names of recipients since 1998, when the tradition began, hang in the DISD Administration Building. A total of 48 distinguished graduates and one for lifetime achievement have previously been named. Twenty-seven names have been added earlier to the Sports Hall of Fame.

This year’s honorees or their representatives and other members of the Alumni Association will be riding in the Homecoming Parade. Music at the reception will be provided by the Denison High Stage Band.

Finger foods will be provided at the reception at no charge to attendees, who will be guests of the Denison Alumni Association. After a short mixer, awards will be presented to each of the honorees, who will respond briefly.
